Getting Started with I-MaT

I-MaT, the Interactive Music Analysis Tool, offers a wide array of functionalities for the analysis of music. This guide will walk you through the process of installing and running I-MaT.

Installation

I-MaT can be easily installed with a few simple steps:

  1. Python Installation: I-MaT is built on Python. If it is not already installed on your machine, it can be downloaded from the official Python website.

  2. I-MaT Installation:

    • Open the command prompt (for Windows) or terminal (for Mac/Linux).

    • Type pip install imat and hit Enter.

This will install I-MaT on your system.

  1. Optional - MuseScore Installation: For users who wish to take advantage of I-MaT’s integration with musical notation, MuseScore can be installed from here.

Running the Program

Once installed, running I-MaT is as straightforward as executing a command:

  1. Open Command Prompt or Terminal:

    • On Windows: Open the Start menu, type cmd, and hit Enter.

    • On Mac/Linux: Press Command+Space to bring up Spotlight, type terminal, and hit Enter.

  2. Execute the Program:

    • In the command prompt or terminal, type imat and hit Enter.

The program should begin executing.

Troubleshooting

If any issues arise during installation or execution, follow these steps:

  1. Verify Python and Pip Installations:

    • Open a command prompt or terminal.

    • Run python --version to check the installed version of Python. I-MaT requires Python 3.

    • Run pip --version to confirm pip is installed.

  2. Reinstall I-MaT:

    • Open a command prompt or terminal.

    • Uninstall I-MaT by running pip uninstall imat.

    • Reinstall I-MaT by running pip install imat.
